Laser Combat

Overview
We have introduced laser combat to our site and this page details the equipment that we use. We also provide some background information on laser combat and some of the technical aspects of game.
Our paintball and laser fields are set in 40 acres of picturesque woodland.

With Bristol airport nearby, we welcome players from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland.

You bring the troops and we'll supply the ray guns!

What Is It?

Battle Storm Close Quarters Battle (C.Q.B.) is a hi-tech, outdoor combat simulation system that's a realistic alternative to paintball and computer gaming.

What We Do!

As with our paintball games we commonly play in woodland which provides great natural cover. Within and around the woodland we've built some playing areas or zones which contain features like our 50 foot two storey castle and a wild west cowboy town.

We have imaginative games and excellent playing areas, and we also have a real desire to make our guests feel welcome. We also think that laser combat is great fun, and the fun can be enhanced by our staff not just marshalling the games but participating with the guests, encouraging and consoling them as well as joining in with the fun atmosphere.

The emphasis is always on fun, whether you're on a hen or stag party, a social event or a team building exercise. Whether your needs are just purely for entertainment or personnel development, we guarantee you'll have an entertaining and exciting time at Skirmish Bristol. Our games are designed to develop teamwork, communication skills and leadership qualities whilst fitting into your specific requirements and budget.

Use your military support for cover from enemy snipers and cross-fire!

The Equipment We Use.

After researching what's available, we've decided to use "Battle Storm C.Q.B." equipment, which offers our guests the ultimate in realistic laser combat gaming and is designed especially for use on existing paintball sites. Forget the old "metal box" type guns, Battle Storm C.Q.B. equipment is styled on real replica weapons, giving you high quality game play and the ultimate experience in laser combat.

Is laser Combat Safe?

Yes, the weapons fire a completely harmless infrared beam with pinpoint accuracy of up to 100 metres. They use the same type of beam that are used in everyday TV remote controls.

So why is Battle Storm C.Q.B. so different?

Well we've found that it's one of the most advanced laser systems available in the world. The equipment is professional, adjustable and makes equipping players simple and easy. The guns are ergonomically ideal for almost all ages and are lightweight and have adjustable stocks for comfortable and enjoyable game play. It's one of the few systems that are solely designed and manufactured in the UK.

Key Differences From Paintball.

The key differences between laser combat and paintball are,

  • You'll never run out of ammunition or gas.
  • Apart from some sensible outdoor clothing and footwear. Laser combat doesn't require any additional protective gear as the guns fire a harmless infrared beam. ( We do however supply all players with overalls and head gear to help protect our guests clothing. )
  • Anyone can play together, boys, girls, and adults can all have an adrenalin packed day playing in our combat zones. An ideal pastime for families and friends.

Some History.

In late 1970's and early 1980's, the United States Army deployed a system using infrared beams for combat training. Known as the MILES system it functions like laser combat in that beams are "fired" into receivers and score hits. Similar systems are now manufactured by several companies and used by various armed forces around the world.

Dodge, an unforgiving town where the law has no meaning and no one is willing to take on the local gang of hired guns. Watch your back, especially at the saloon!

Player Equipment

Hover your mouse over the black panels below to reveal information on each of the items indicated on Laser Liz.

Head Sensor

The Headband houses the sensors, hit indicators and radio transceiver used during game play and can be worn with or without headwear due to the fully adjustable band. With 360 degree sensor coverage and hit indicators that illuminate and show clearly when hit, even in daylight, there is no chance of “blind spots” or failing to see a hit player. The radio transceiver is necessary to support many of the advanced CQB system features and is also used for radio telemetry, downloading scores and the control of the equipment.

Sound Unit

The Sound Unit continuously presents the player with information on the game through system status lights and a built-in synthesiser. Unobtrusive and light-weight, the unit is worn on the player´s arm by means of a strap and forms a nerve centre for the equipment, interacting with the player through a variety of sounds and connecting the sensors in the headband and the weapon. With status lights indicating health, ammunition levels and any possible system problems, and started by means of a Touch Starter, the unit has built in batteries and a charge management system.

Weapon

The Weapon is fully configurable and gives flexibility to each player role whilst keeping the system´s realism and safety features. Using a replica Heckler & Koch MP7 Sub-Machine gun, the size of the weapon makes it ideal for restricted environments and its adjustable stock means it´s suitable for all ages and sizes. Especially weighted and balanced to create the feel and look of the real weapon, only the barrel attachment that houses the Infra-Red technology and an umbilical cord sets it apart from the original MP7.

Information

Because laser combat doesn't have physical projectiles like paintballs. There is not the same safety issue required when playing these games. Please contact us to verify the best kit you should wear when you come along for a session of laser combat.
